Treatments Provided

Basically and as stated in the What is Physiotherapy section, physiotherapy can consist of:

Full History and Assessment:
Over and above the condition that a patient brings to the clinic and in order to fully treat this condition, the wider view of the patient's lifestyle is taken into consideration to try and avoid a recurrence of the problem.
Discuss Appropriate Treatment:
There are usually a number of different treatments that will achieve the same goal and after assessment and explanation, treatment can commence with the patients consent.
Physiotherapy Treatments:
Such treatments can include; manual & electrotherapy techniques, advice on appropriate exercises, posture re-education, taping and correct support advice. A full explanation of the problem is provided and when appropriate, a specific home management regime is given.
Technology:
Estelle is a "hands-on" physio but there are times when technology simply can't be beaten. As well as the most up-to-date electrotherapy equipment such as ultrasound, interferential and low level laser - all of course regularly serviced - Estelle now has the revolutionary and ground breaking FOOTMAXX Footmaxx Logoorthotic system. This is the first such system in mainland Europe and more details can be found by visiting www.footmaxx.com or clicking on their logo.

So and after having said all of that, what can be treated?

The answer is a surprising amount of conditions! In essence, it is better actually talking to Estelle to see if she can help.

However, looking further and to give some common ailments, their conditions and treatments:click on any of the undernoted. More are being added on a regular basis so please come back often or let us know your ailment and we will try and post our views.

Treatments are designed to promote healing, decrease pain and prevent re-injury.

Treatments may entail:

Manual techniques: Soft tissue and joint mobilisations (gentle loosening).

Manipulation: Stronger passive movement (not often required as it may be too vigorous).

Traction: Stretching (gentle).

Electrotherapy: Ultrasound, Interferential and Low Level Laser Therapy (or a combination).

Exercise: Strengthening/mobilising.

Rehabilitation: The right way to return to full function.

Training: Postural re-education, lifting/carrying techniques.

Advice: Home Management "tips and tricks", information on chairs, pillows, hot/cold packs, supports etc., etc.

With more moving parts than any machine, it's not surprising your body occasionally cries out in pain or refuses to do what you tell it to. Physiotherapy is an effective way to treat many of the problems you can experience!
